What the app does that a browser cannot
It is already on the screen
No typing an address, no digging through browser tabs, no hunting for the link somebody sent you in March. The icon sits on the home screen and the album opens in one tap. Over a weekend with several hundred photos, that is the difference between checking the album and meaning to.
It is faster, because it is installed
Nothing is downloaded before the first picture appears. Thumbnails are cached on the device, scrolling a large album stays smooth, and the app opens instantly instead of waiting for a page to load on venue wifi.
Uploads keep running when you leave
This is the one that matters at an event. On iPhone the transfer is handed to the system's background session, on Android to the work manager, so it carries on when you switch apps or lock the phone. In a browser tab, leaving the page stops the upload.
Pick from your camera roll
The app opens your actual photo library, with albums and dates, so you can select a whole evening at once instead of hunting through a file dialog.
A nudge when something needs you
If you switched on upload approval, the app tells you when pictures are waiting, so nobody's photo sits unseen.
On Android: scan first, install second
A guest can scan the QR code before installing anything. After the install the app opens straight into your event, without a code to type. This runs on the Play install referrer, so it is Android only; iOS offers nothing equivalent.

Nobody is made to install anything. A guest who scans the QR code lands in the browser and can upload from there in a few seconds. A guest who would rather have the app gets a faster picker and steadier uploads. Both end up in the same album, and you decide per album who may look and who may only add.
Who should install it, and who should not
If you host one event a year, the browser is enough and always will be. Scan, upload, done, and nothing left on the phone afterwards. That is the honest answer and it is why we never make guests install anything.
The app is for the other side of the room. If you run events regularly, a photographer delivering to clients, someone organising the company party every quarter, a photo booth operator, then the home screen icon, the faster album and the uploads that survive a locked screen stop being conveniences and start being the reason the evening's pictures actually arrive.
Guests never need it either way. Both roads end in the same album.

Yes, on both stores, and your first event fits in the free 2 GB. If you need more, the paid plans start at 4.99 EUR a month for 10 GB.
Which phones does it run on?
iPhone and iPad through the App Store, Android phones and tablets through Google Play. There is also a web app for everything else.
Do photos lose quality?
No. Pictures and videos are kept at the resolution they were taken at, and downloads give you the original file.
Can I get the photos out again?
Yes. Download the whole event as a ZIP, or have EventPics copy everything into your own Google Drive so the album outlives the event.
